ARTIST BOOKS

For many years, I made one-of-a-kind handmade journals. Recently, I have moved to books with content, often called artist books.
Under the tutelage of my friend Clarissa Sligh, I am producing books that focus on social issues of particular importance to me. The first, a gun-shaped book called Disarming Hate, looks at hatred and gun violence in America. It was produced to be part of an exhibition library to accompany the re-exhibition of groundbreaking exhibit, Speaking Volumes: Transforming Hate at the Holter Museum in Helena, Montana.
Planning is now under way for a second book in this series that looks at the alarming development of for-profit prisons for detaining people incarcerated and illegal immigrants.
A longtime lover of swimming, I am drawn to the images of water and bodies swimming – and, using pochoir, I create swimming images for books.
Also, I have produced one small book of palladium prints of tulips and leaves, subtly toned in watercolor. More will follow.
